We were on a yatra in Rajasthan & Gujarat and stayed a day in Ahmedabad with a devotee. A nice simple arrangement in the center of town where a modest tent was set up on a small square opposite the house. The usual program of Aarti and Darshan was happening. Also Shammi Kapoor was one of the devotees traveling with Babaji. Shammiji was an extremely famous actor of Bollywood, perhaps the number one in that period of time. Movie stars of that calibre are revered like Gods in India. When he came out into the open to attend the aarti to Babaji the news of him being present there spread like wildfire around town and by the end of aarti the whole area was gridlocked. People crowded in from all sides and there was no way of blocking them. There was not much interest in Babaji from all those people and many had their backs to him staring at the famous idol. Nothing could move, instructions were ignored so after some time Babaji requested Shammiji to leave from there for a while and send me to accompany him. It was an amazing experience. Shammi Kapoor is not only a big personality and Indian celebrity but also had a large stature. With head and shoulders he was sticking out of the crowd around him. We slowly moved thru sea of people into the middle of a large open square where he started to give blessings, autographs and receive pranaams. People as far as the eye could see were packing around us. Shammiji was very tranquil and relaxed chatting with me and some around us while hundreds of people were pushing and pulling to get closer.

It was quite an experience to see such enormous crowds all longing to be close to this famous character they only knew from the movie screen. No doubt a great personality but all these people only know him from the various roles he acted in. I imagine these people see a daring, flawless hero with whom they try to personify to escape the pain of the reality of daily life. And close by in a small street the Lord of the Universe was sitting with a few devotees around him……
It is said that many lifetimes and suffering of pain fall sorts is what has pushed us into having interest in the Divine. Babaji is no regular Human Being and looking at him is like looking thru a window into the Divine realm. Whatever we may see looking at His image, is translated into what we can understand in our mind, our present level of consciousness. For me as it was for many of us never boring to look at Him even if He seemed doing nothing or something simple. But it was not the same for everybody. Some saw a slightly chubby chap with an attitude and went on their way without any kind of realization.
It is always His grace to be called to His feet and recognize something Divine. We all have different explanations of that feeling we have when we have darshan as it is a communication with the Divine beyond mind and reasoning. Whether Babaji called you last week or 45 years ago to His holy feet makes no difference in experiencing Him. Who He gives grace is upto Him and Him alone. To indulge in selfless action in His name from your heart is probably the most powerful tool to obtain Grace.
Do it your way and make it a symphony to the Divine !
Bhole Baba ki Jai !
